I was very fortunate during my brief time in Vancouver to actually have a nice sunset.
I had spent a few hours of the afternoon wandering around Stanley Park with the aim to visit this particular spot in time for the sun to go down, and was very pleased by what I saw. I had been out since around 5am and was pretty tired by this point, but you forget the aching feet and the hunger in your belly for a brief period of time when mother nature puts on a show for you.
Though there was another spot I really want to grab a few images from due to the composition opportunities, I opted to stay rooted to this particular spot after the sun went down so that I could grab images of the lights from the buildings being switched on to use for the final edit.
The image here is actually a combination of 3 different photos. One of the long exposures I took had a deep red colour and was taken with my ND filter, but it didn’t really work for what I wanted the final image to look like; the water was nice though, if nothing else. I therefore took the water element from that photo and added it to the sunset shot you see here with blues and yellows across the scene. Of course, this would look odd with the water being in red so I simply used the colour matching features within Photoshop to transfer the colours from one layer to another.
Finally I blended in one of the last shots I had taken with the lights on the buildings on.
Really pleased with the end results.
